There was a Children's Day fishing competition on Rábasömjén lake
The Rábapaty és Vidéke HE was held on May 12. children's day fishing competition on the Rábasömjén lake, where 6 seniors, 8 juniors and 6 youngsters eagerly awaited the start of the competition. You can read the report of the fishing association below.
From 8 o'clock in the morning, the children who wanted to fish arrived at the lake shore. There was simply no end to the line of people waiting to enter, "Sömjéni-tó" had never seen such a "crowd". Fortunately, the weather was favorable for the competition this year. Beautiful sunshine and a light northerly wind characterized the whole day. After the registration, the procedure was explained. It was only possible to fish with a floating rig. The children's age group only had to complete half of the posted competition time (1.5 hours), but some of them already lost their attention towards the end of the competition. At 9:00 a.m., the competition began after the sound of the bugle. The first bites were hard to come by and this didn't change much later either, but everyone still caught fish.
There was also a rig that got stuck in a tree or reeds, as it "fits" for beginner anglers. During the competition, the organizers tried to revive the waning desire to catch fish with refreshments, ice cream, chocolate, and apples. Some of the helpers provided useful professional advice to the slightly discouraged competitors, which had an effect. The partial results promised a close competition, so after the bagpipe signaled the end of the competition, a small pilgrimage started following the weigh-ins.
In addition to plenty of sunfish, bream, bream, red-winged bream, silver crucian carp and a good number of perch were found in the sáks. This year's big surprise was a pike that earned its "owner" a podium finish. Fortunately, not a single piece of dwarf catfish was caught in the current competition, even though it was a typical fish of the past years, it was even possible to win a competition with it.

2nd place Máté Mészáros 720 g
3rd place Mátyás Eredics 660 g
-Upper age group:
1st place Barnabás Molnár 400 g
2nd place Smolczer Adrián 120 g
3rd place Horváth Benett 80 g
Ovis age group:
1st place Mia Dugovics 1380 g
2nd place Leo Takács 360 g
3rd place Emília Bihun 140 g
The winners of the podium were enriched by MOHOSZ with material prizes in addition to the experiences they had together. Each member of the ovis group also received a commemorative fish plaque to commemorate their first competition. Thanks to several of our fellow fishermen, however, the others did not leave empty-handed either. Apart from the podium finishers, everyone received a package containing a tip stick and equipment.
In addition, special prizes were awarded:
Máté Mészáros caught the biggest fish (pike 720 g) and won a fishing reel.
Mátyás Eredics, who caught the smallest fish, received a package of small items.
After the announcement of the results, the goulash prepared in the meantime was eaten and informal discussions were held. That's when one of the ovis competitors raised the question, next time there should be champagne so that it can be sprinkled during the award ceremony. There were those whose fishing in the competition did not fully satisfy their needs, so - to the greatest "joy" of their parents - they even accepted a little overtime.
