Lake Lukácsházi Abért I and II (C&R)

The Abért Lakes are located in a wonderful environment on the border of Kőszeg, with the Kőszeg Mountains in the background.

An artificial lake that is a seasonal flood reservoir. Its task is to ensure the flood protection of Szombathely and the surrounding villages. It was named after László Abért, one of the chief engineers of the Water Directorate.

During the flood of 1965, the flooded Gyöngyös stream caused extremely large floods and damage to the settlements along the stream. After the flood, the water experts recommended that a flood reservoir be built in the southern part of Kőszeg, in the northern areas of Lukácsháza, which would protect the settlements from flood damage. In 2008, the Western Transdanubian Environmental Protection and Water Directorate won European Union funding for the implementation of the flood reservoir. The implementation of the plan began in September 2009 and was completed by June 30, 2010.

The 390,000 cubic meters of soil required for the construction of the valley barrier was taken from a locally open mining site, during the recultivation of which a 16- and a 9-hectare lake were created. Both water areas were created with mechanical work during the recultivation, their beds and shorelines can be said to be "sterile".

The Abért I. lake is fed by the Gyöngyös stream belonging to the water system of the Rába river through a water extraction structure. Abért I. lake supplies water to Abért II. lake, the excess water of which flows back into the Gyöngyös stream through a flushing channel. The water quality of the lakes is excellent, just like the feeding streams. In addition to the excellent bird habitat, the islands created in the lakes also serve the natural reproduction of fish through their bays covered with vegetation.

It was handed over on October 12, 2010. After the handover, the place quickly became a local excursion spot. Many people come here to cycle, jog or enjoy the harmony of nature. On January 27, 2011, the municipality of Kőszeg City and the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations concluded a cooperation agreement regarding the right to fish in the lakes.

Several times a year, the fish-rich sport fishing ponds host various fishing competitions, during which individual total catches of around 30-40 kilograms are not uncommon.

Abért Lukácsházi I. - II. You can fish on the lake under the following conditions:

All fish - with the exception of catfish - must be gently released back into the water immediately after being caught.
Fishing cannot be started without a large diving bag, a fish mattress ("carp mattress") and a hook releaser. The use of bait fish nets is strictly FORBIDDEN!
Abért I.-II. on the lake, there is a general - artificial bait - predatory fish ban between January 1 and April 30.
Abért I-II. on the lake, between October 01 and March 31, you can fish from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or until the public lights are turned on, and from April 01 to September 30, from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., or until the public lights are turned on. Fishing in the dark is FORBIDDEN!
On the Abér I.-II lake - with artificial bait - you can only spin and fly with a hook with a depressed beard or without a beard.
Abért I-II. fishing with live bait fish and fish slices, as well as fly fishing, is prohibited on the lake!
Abért I. lake can be fished with spinning and fly fishing in the entire area, but the use of fishing methods other than spinning and fly fishing is only possible on the two sides above the Gyöngyös stream. (In the area next to the parking lot and the dam between the two lakes, fishing with any method other than spinning and fly fishing is prohibited.)
Abért II. on the lake - with all kinds of methods - you can only fish on the shores designated by the Western Transdanubian Water Board. /Sign indicates/ Abért II. it is forbidden to fish on the shore above the main road in the lake!
It is forbidden to drive a car on the embankment and you can only park your car in the parking lot next to the Abért I-II lake. It is not possible to enter the roads and embankments next to the lake by car even during loading and unloading. Violating the traffic rules will result in a regional ticket!
It is forbidden to feed the fish!
