There was an integrated fishing afternoon in Szombathely for people with disabilities

The Vas County Association of Sports Fishing Associations organized a fishing day for young people with disabilities on Wednesday at Csónakázó lake. They were able to learn the basics of fishing and, under the guidance of routine fishermen, they could also have their own fishing experiences during the pleasant afternoon. The program that helps the integration and acceptance of people with disabilities has been a tradition for six years. No one was left empty-handed.

The participants gathered at the bridge on the Árpád utca side of the lake in beautiful autumn weather and in a good mood. They drew lots for the fishing spots and took over the necessary equipment, the association provided the competitors with two fishing rods, bait, and feeding materials. Young people participating in the day care system of FÉHE Nonprofit Kft. and residents of the home in Hrvátzsidány came to the competition - a total of 16 teams occupied the piers. Some participated in the leisure program not for the first time.

- I came for the second time, I've been to Vaskeresztes before and I really liked it. The best thing is to throw in the rods, and I'm very happy if I manage to catch a fish - said Dominik Takács , who enthusiastically followed his assistant's advice while fishing.

Anikó Wagner accompanied his son Barnabás. They prepared for a pleasant afternoon together in a good mood.

- I think it's a very good initiative, we can be with nice people, it's a completely new experience, which is very good for our children every time - said the mother.

The county fishing association and the Vas County organization of the National Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities and their Supporters have been cooperating for a long time. In 2016, the first such integrated fishing day was organized to give young people living with a disadvantage an experience.

- The technical part of fishing develops fine motor skills, they deal with very minute things, which helps them to concentrate and pay attention. And this is also a great community program, many are accompanied by their parents and family members - said Klára Németh, president of ÉFOÉSZ Vas county.

The association does a lot for the disabled, and a good relationship has developed between the two organizations: last Christmas, for example, they donated aquarium vouchers to the residents of the day care center.

- It is important to us that fishing is not only a sport for healthy people, but also for those whose lives are a little more difficult. That is why we are creating barrier-free fishing spots in our waters and issuing discounted tickets and single-rod permits that exempt them from the costs - said Norbert Puskás, executive president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations.

Next to the young people with disabilities, a helping sport fisherman was drawn, several of them have been a couple for years.

- I am happy to come together with my colleagues, and today, when there are so many problems in the world, it feels very good if we can help - said fisheries guard István Fördős while showing his teammate Barnabás how to bait the hook.

The experience is that those who live with many difficulties on a daily basis and it is a problem for them to concentrate on something for a long time, here they wait for the catch with great attention and enthusiasm and are happy with each and every fish.
At the end of the two-hour peca, during the weighing, it turned out that none of the mouths remained empty: small fish, bream, and even balin were caught. Although this time the point was not the competition, but for everyone to have a good time, at the end the best were awarded: with a total performance of 880 grams, the duo Miklós-Málovics Norbert Molnár won. The podium finishers received a cup and a medal, everyone was enriched with a souvenir card and nice experiences this afternoon.
