The M&B carp team won the first boilies competition in Gers, in a time that tried people
On September 30, 2024, the 1st Vasi Vizeken Friendly Bojlis Fishing Tournament started, the location of which was the picturesque Gersekarati Sárvíz lake. The lake is famous for its abundant fish population, especially known as a favorite residence of 5-15 kg carp. The purpose of the competition was to allow anglers visiting the lake to compare their skills in a friendly competition.
The novelty of the competition was the use of the boat "pull-in" fishing method, together with the use of a feeder boat. With this method, anglers could target large fish more specifically, increasing the chance of a successful catch. The idea of the competition had been raised by several anglers before, but it was finally realized thanks to the enthusiasm of Dániel Szabó - the lake's fishing guard - with the support of the Federation colleagues. Dániel's past as a fisherman from Boiler inspired him to organize the friendly but challenging competition.
Eight teams participated in the competition, each team with two main competitors and one assistant. On the first day, the participants heard the greeting of the main organizer Dániel Szabó, and then Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Vas County Federation of Sport Fishing Associations, welcomed the competitors and explained the current events related to the lake. After the opening, the rules of the competition were explained, and then it was decided by lot which sections of the coast the teams could occupy.
The first hours were quiet, the teams were trying out their tactics, looking for the best fishing spots on the lake. The 36-hectare water surface offered many opportunities, so different tactics were used: there was little similarity in the type of lures and the distances to be fished.
Although the first day did not bring much excitement, the fish eventually appeared and the competitors caught more and more beautiful specimens. The first larger catches were carp between 3-4 kg, but it soon became clear that the smaller fish had to be selected, since according to the competition rules, only catches over 6 kg counted. This is how the teams changed the baits and rigs to facilitate the "big fish" catches.
The arrival of the cold front on Tuesday revived the appetite of the fish and the competition took an exciting turn. Some specimens over 10 kg were also caught, which increased the competitors' chances of winning. Despite the rough weather, the teams continued to fish persistently and the competition took place in a friendly atmosphere.
On the last evening, the organizers Dániel Szabó and Balázs Szekeres treated the participants to a warm potluck dinner, where friendly conversations took place, and it was suggested that they could hold a spring and autumn competition next year, if the fishing rights of the lake remain under the management of the Association.
The present anglers want to preserve the lake not only in words, but also in the field of deeds and already started collecting signatures during the competition in order to preserve the fishing rights of the lake in the Federation. You can also join the civil signature collection online, but anyone can sign the petition in person in several places in the Gersekarát-Vasvár-Körmend area.

Approaching the last day, the question remained open: who will win the cup and who will catch the biggest fish? The final results were revealed at noon on Friday, October 4, 2024, when the competitors concluded the five-day challenge by weighing their last fish.
The final result of the competition was as follows:
1. M&B Carp Team – 36,820 g
2. MG Team – 32,720 g
3. Fanatic Carp Team – 23,300 g
4. Ds-Baits Österreich – 16,100 g
5. MI-ZO Carp Team – 15,180 g
6. Göcsej Carp Team – 8,220 g
7. CSIDEI Carp Team and Big Fish Team
During the competition, a total of 132,340 g of fish were collected from specimens over 6 kg. Although the catch was not outstanding for those familiar with the lake's rich stock of fish, the bad weather and cooled water was not conducive to big catches. Fanatic Carp Team competitor Tamás Molnár caught the biggest fish in the form of a 13,100-gram carp.
In closing, Norbert Puskás thanked Dániel Szabó and Balázs Szekeres for the organization, as well as the supporting companies for the special prizes offered. The representative of Ds-Baits Österreich was able to receive a gift package as a thank you for the 50-50 euro vouchers offered for the biggest carp caught on each day.
We also congratulate all participants, especially the podium teams!
