The Harcsák team from Rum won this year's Fishing Competition
On September 18, the XIX. Final of the Vasi Vizeken Primary School Fishing Competition. This date was different from tradition, but the weather in early June and the flood situation in the area did not allow the program to take place at the end of the academic year. The on-site competition was preceded by two correspondence rounds, for which 12 teams from the primary schools of Vas County entered this year. All 12 teams were invited to the originally planned date of the final, but only 10 teams were able to come to the venue in September, as two teams from one school had members who are now continuing their studies in high school.
Upon arrival, all children signed in at the registration table, received the welcome candy, and then the teams took their places, marked by the team flags made in the first round. Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, greeted the children, their companions and organizers. After that , Judit Polgárné Németh, an employee of the Association and the organizer of the event, explained the course of the competition and the daily program.
In the first half of the competition, the children solved a theoretical worksheet. The thorough preparation was shown by the fact that the teams completed the filling very quickly, within the given time. The worksheet assessed the students' knowledge of fish and fishing with test questions, true-false statements to be decided, and fish recognition based on pictures. The teams submitted their solutions in sealed envelopes and excitedly prepared for the practical part of the program, the catching of fish.
After the fishing spots were drawn and the competition rules were explained, the teams took their starting spots. The Association provided each team with a 3-m and a 4-m fishing rod, but the children could also fish with a fishing rod of the same size brought from home. A bagpipe signaled when the feeding could begin, and after 10 minutes another bagpipe signaled the start of the competition.
While the fishing was going on, the theoretical round was corrected, in which the Harcsák team of Rumi Rajki István Primary School and the DerkoCarpTeam of Szombathely Derkovits Primary School finished in a tie for the lead with 27-27 points.
The fish also felt the sudden cooling down in September and the teams were not in an easy situation during fishing. Most of the young anglers caught smaller fish, but some nicer carp and grass carp were also hooked.
The teams of Király Keszeg from the Répcelak school and HORG-ÁSZOK from Sárvár were particularly good, and they proudly showed off their catches during the weigh-in, but not only them, the others also had nice catches, almost everyone got a fish in their mouths.
After the correspondence round, the on-site theoretical and practical tasks, the overall final result was as follows:

At the announcement of the results, all participants and their accompanying teachers received a souvenir card and a gift package, the members of the first three teams and their school were also able to enjoy cups and fishing rods.
Norbert Puskás thanked the children for their sportsmanlike participation and the helpers and teachers for supporting the children in spending as much time as possible fishing and expanding their fishing knowledge. He said that next year, we plan to hold our 20th anniversary competition, and we welcome the ideas of the teachers and assistants so that we can prepare even more exciting and colorful tasks for the children. In connection with this, he thanked István Németh, who has been very conscientiously involved in the preparation of students for 20 years, but next year he will hand over the opportunity to his teaching colleague, who himself once participated in a fishing competition in Vasi Vizek as a student.
In closing, he thanked the organizers for their work and wished the children and teachers a successful school year.
The sponsor of the event is the Hungarian National Fishing Association, which provided the fishing rods necessary for fishing.
