The first stage of the county competition series of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations called "Best Sport Angler of Iron Waters" started in Gersekarát on Sunday morning, where a total of 49 people competed in three categories. At the beginning of the competition, we remembered László Pajtli, one of the excellent competitors of the hobby category, who also entered this year's competition series, but unfortunately passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago.

On Sunday morning, in the cool, rainy weather, the organizers divided the 18 competitors into two sectors, the 29 adult hobbyists into three sectors, and the youth into one sector. Since there were no significant changes in the rules, after a quick technical meeting, everyone could quickly take their fishing spot and the preparation began.

The hobby anglers prepared for the 4-hour competition with feeder rods, and the competitors with match and stacking rods. In the meantime, the organizers started the bait inspection, where they found everything in order this time, so the first federal fishing competition of 2023 started without interruption.

After the start, it was difficult to catch fish in all categories, because of the capricious weather it was not guaranteed to catch the first fish quickly, all competitors needed continuous experimentation. In the first stage of the competition, the vast majority of anglers tried to fish the inner distance, hoping for carp and bream, with more or less success.

Among the competitors, however, there were anglers who, after the indoor series without a catch, chose the short distance, the pointed rods and stacked rods appeared, with which they targeted the smaller fish. Most forced dark feed and live bait due to the cold clear water. For several competitors, mosquito larvae were present on the bait limit in addition to bony and pinky, which also showed that the professional pecs were not primarily designed for large fish either.

In the hobby category, anglers mainly chose the method feeder method. The course was very rhapsodic, as there were sectors where there was hardly any catch, but there were also places where fish had to be tired several times during the competition.

In addition to the rain, the increasing east-southeast wind taught the starters a lesson. The competitors were prepared for the harsh conditions, as rubber boots, waterproof clothing and a fishing umbrella were not left out of the equipment this year.

At the end of the day , Attila Vámos/Spartacus HE ./ weighed in with the best performance among the competitors, who won the first round with a catch of 7560 grams. Behind him, the first in the other sector , Kádi Szabolcs / Elektromosok SHE ./graduated with 4500 grams in the silver medal place.

The third place - sector with a result of two - this time Zoltán Török / Elektromosok SHE. / Latvian, with his fishing of 6880 grams, he managed to finish third.

The fate of the first place in the Hobby adult category turned out to be quite close. Miklós Varga /Vasvári Petőfi HE./ won his sector with 10,260 grams and managed to take the first place. Zoltán Horváth /Vasvári Petőfi HE./ managed to land 10,120 grams of fish in the second place, not far behind the first place.

Angler Gábor Németh /Ölbői SHE./ was able to take the third step of the imaginary podium with a total catch of 8520 grams.

This year, several people from the IF category have aged out, so this time only 2 contestants competed for the title of the best young athlete of the Karát Cup. The interesting aspect of the sector was that Dávid Bálint and Zsolt Bálint competed with each other as brothers. Finally, the most skillful is Dávid Bálint / HE Körmendi Munkás. / who came first with a catch of 480 grams. His brother had no reason to be sad either, as he persistently tried to hook the fish, but this time Zsolt Bálint had to make do / HE Körmendi Munkás. / 460 grams with the second place.

During the announcement of the results , Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Association, and József Mesterházy, the fish farming group leader, handed over the prizes, medals, and certificates to the best.
