Fishing school at the Elektromosok Sport Fishing Association

2025.01.22. Share

Before this school year, the Electricians' SHE announced the Fishing School program in the summer, in which they started a group this year. Due to last year's oversubscription, the parents of children who missed out in the previous school year were notified first, giving their child the opportunity to participate this year. In the end, 9 children applied, the children's ages are between 9-14 years, which shows a smaller variance compared to the previous year and thus we can work better together in the lessons. It is a special pleasure that the girl who applied both last year and this year is also among the little anglers. - we learned from Tamás Farkas, the main organizer of the Fishing School program

In the first semester, the sessions were held in the association's office on Saturday afternoons at a pre-announced time. The basis of the theoretical material was the HUNOP Workbook, which was provided free of charge to the participants of the Fishing School for the children participating in the Fishing School program, which we filled out together during the sessions and discussed and learned its theoretical background. The theoretical material was supplemented by our own lectures and own catch images developed based on the themes built in previous years, as well as the work published in 2023 by Árpád Ferincz-Ádám Stanszny- István Dérer- Béla Urbányi: Hungarian Fish Book .
The first session involved getting to know each other, assessing the children's biological and fishing knowledge in the form of playful conversation, and we began using the workbook.

The next time, since the weather was also favorable to us, instead of indoor education, we conducted “fish monitoring” with prior permission from the fish warden at the part of the Gyöngyös stream next to the Vérellátó. On the way there, the children had a lot of questions, so we discussed the practice of “fish monitoring” and the species of fish that can be removed in detail. The children helped enthusiastically on site, and we managed to remove chub and bream, which we released back into the stream after taking photos and viewing them. – said Tamás Farkas

In November, László Fekete , an experienced angler who regularly returns to the Fishing School and is a success every year, gave a “retro fishing” demonstration to the children. He presented his extensive collection, describing in detail each piece presented, be it a float, weight, bait or rod. Each old piece always brought with it a nice story, an old fishing experience, from which the children could learn a lot and get to know the “fishing of the old days”.

On the last two occasions of the first semester, there was theory, followed by practice at the end of the session: knitting, with the help of previous students.

The series of programs does not end, the main organizer continues: In the next semester, we plan to continue practical and theoretical education, similarly to last year, participation in FEHOVA - which was a great success among the children! -, a trip to the Carp Farm, to learn about the mysteries of fish reproduction, a presentation of float fishing by competitive angler Tamás Takács, and to close the year, a family fishing trip combined with a picnic, as well as participation in a children's fishing competition on Lake Rábasömjén.

It is a special pleasure to have been able to participate in the preparation of the children I taught last year, who participated as a team in the finals of the 19th Vasi Vizeken Primary School Competition, where the team ultimately finished in a distinguished 5th place. - concludes Tamás Farkas in his report.

Tamás is actively assisted in the teaching of the fishing school by his partner, Dr. Orsolya Anna Tóth, and Erzsébet Szabó, the SHE secretary of the Electricians. The fishing equipment and the children's training are also supported by the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations within the framework of the MOHOSZ HUNOP training program.

We would like to thank Tamás Farkas and his helpers for their voluntary work to replenish the fishing fleet and wish them further successful programs!
