On Sunday, May 17, 2026, we held the round of the Vasi Vizeken–Garbolino–TackleBait Döröske Cup competitor category at the Döröske Reservoir. This time, the 4-hour fine-rig competition was not only about the fish, but also about endurance, adaptation and technical knowledge, as the competitors were greeted by an extremely strong, gusty wind on the waterfront.

A total of 13 competitors took part in the round, in two sectors: a field of 6 and a field of 7. Although the morning rain had stopped and the sun came out at times, the gusty winds posed a serious challenge to both the pole and match rod anglers.

It was already evident in the first hour that the bream stock of the Döröskei Reservoir was in good shape again. The continuous bream catch determined the competition on almost every section of the course, but the carp appeared in much smaller numbers this time.

The wind made pole fishing almost impossible in many places. It was difficult to hold long rods steady, and precise rig guidance required serious concentration. Many people therefore switched to the match rod technique, which has proven to be a more effective solution in today's conditions.

A good result on this day primarily required continuous bream catching, precise feeding, appropriate bait and tackle selection, and quick tactical adaptation. There was no major complaint about the average and total catch:

  • Total weight: 104,420 grams
  • Average catch: 8,032 grams/person

The rankings were based on sector evaluations, so it was particularly important to see how well each player was able to get the most out of their own section of the field.

The final winners of the Döröske Cup were the following competitors:

  1. Balint Varga – B27 – 13 390 g
  2. Zoltán Törek – A18 – 11 180 g
  3. István Bedics – B25 – 11 420 g

After the results were announced, we asked the main characters how they experienced the competition day:

Bálint Varga: “Today the matchbot got the main role”

According to the winner of the competition, Bálint Varga, the key to success was quick adaptation. Due to the strong wind, fishing with a rakós rod did not work properly for him either, so he quickly decided to use a match rod. He fished at a distance of about 25–30 meters with fine rigging, thin line and small hooks. A significant part of his catch was made up of 30–40 decagram bream, but a few carp also accepted his feeding. An important element of the winning tactic was continuous, precise feeding: after almost every cast, he used a slingshot to deliver small doses of bait to the distance he was fishing. Baiting with mosquito larvae resulted in many small fish, so in the end, larger baits proved to be effective. He caught most of the fish using 6–8 pinkies or 3–4 csonti. In the end, the fixed float match rod solution worked best for my rig, with a 16 gram float and about one and a half grams of lead.

Zoltán Töreki: "Various catches and well-functioning corn tactics."

The other sector winner, Zoltán Töreki, also voted for the match rod. Due to the wind, fishing with a rod was out of the question for him either. He found the fish at a distance of about 17–18 meters, around the slope. He was able to get a continuous bite on the break here. His catch was extremely varied: bream, rudd, red-winged bream, perch, and two carp were also hooked. The live bait mainly attracted small fish, so corn played a key role in catching larger fish. According to him, continuous bait changes and adaptation to the current conditions proved to be a decisive factor in achieving good results.

Today's round once again showed that fine-rig fishing is a real technical sport. It's not just about where the fish is, but also how the competitors can react to the weather, the changing mood of the catch and the small details. The Döröskei Reservoir proved to be an excellent competition venue this time too! Nice bream catches, diverse fish species, difficult weather conditions and serious tactical battles characterized the day.

Congratulations to all participants, the podium finishers and the sector winners, and thank you to everyone who contributed to the successful organization of the competition!

The next round will take place on June 21, 2026 at the Abért Lakes, where all three categories will compete on the same day.
