At home, Ferenc Nagy won this year's Kéthatár-tó Cup
The second round of the "Best Sports Angler of Iron Waters" competition series, organized by the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, traditionally took place on Labor Day at Kéthatár lake near Kerkafalva. A total of 55 anglers entered, who again tried to solve the mystery of the lake and the fish in 3 categories, this time with moderate success.
In the changeable, sunny and slightly windy weather, but fortunately without precipitation, the organizers divided the 19 competitors who appeared into two sectors, the 31 adult hobbyists into three sectors, and the 5 ifis into one sector, so that the best could win the Vasi Vizeken-Garbolino-TackleBait Kéthatár lake Cup.
On behalf of the Association, executive president Norbert Puskás and fish management and fish protection group leader József Mesterházy greeted the anglers. After a brief introduction to the rules and a quick technical meeting, the competitors positioned themselves in the designated sectors around the lake, - passing through a short but thorough bait and feed limit check - soon they could devote their time to preparation.
According to the preliminary announcement, two sectors for the competitors were set up on the Kerka stream side of the lake, one of the three sectors for those starting in the hobby adult category was on the same side as the competitors, while the other two were set up on the side of the Kerkafalva settlement, and the ifiks were on the shore side of the road leading to the lake they got a seat.
The majority of hobby anglers prepared for the 4-hour round with feeder rods, and the competitors with match and stacking rods. Among the juniors, mainly bottoming skills, but rarely swimming skills were also on the line of battle.
It became clear relatively early on that, according to previous years' experience, the otherwise abundant fish stock of Lake Kéthatár does not allow itself to be easily preyed upon. Already at the beginning of the competition, the competitors agreed that they were looking forward to a "busy" day, since despite the significant fish stocking, finding the fish and figuring out the appropriate "method-feed material-bait-tactics" caused a serious headache every year. As the competitors could experience, it was no different this year, as the fishing started with difficulty in all categories, all competitors needed continuous experimentation, but this did not bring results in several starting places.
During the competition, the vast majority of hobby anglers mostly tried to fish the inner distance with feeder and method feeder methods, mainly in the hope of carp and bream, with more or less success.
Most of the competitors initially chose short distance, and then due to the low results, matchbots were brought out, with which they could target medium-sized fish. Surprisingly, the fishing had to end with a zero catch in several starting places, despite the fact that the competitor did everything to catch fish, several people indicated that they came with confidence and specific tactics based on the experience of the previous successful training, so they were puzzled by the "strike" of the fish.
In the end, it turns out that each "stray carp" was a real gift among the prey consisting mainly of bream, less often of crucian carp, sometimes with a few pieces. There were zero starting places in every category, but fortunately this did not discourage the persistent competitors, so the competition was held until the last minute.
At the end of the competitive day, Ferenc Nagy, a member of the local Kéthátar-tó Kerkafalva HE, with the best performance among the adult hobby competitors, became the winner of the second round with a catch of 6100 grams. Behind him, Attila Tóth (Körmendi Munkás HE) won his sector with 2,580 grams and finished in second place, while Zoltán Töreki (Répcelaki Városi Bányász HE) won third place with a catch of 1,840 grams.
During the competition series, a rare but not extraordinary moment took place on the podium of the competitor category. After the fate of first place was decided by Kádi Szabolcs (Elektromosok HE) as the first place in sector B with a catch of 5180 grams, in sector A there was a tie with a catch of 3580 grams, in which case the competition rules favor the angler with a higher number of starting places (that is, sitting in a "less favorable" starting place), so the silver medal went to Márk Máté Koltai (Kéthátar-tó Kerkafalva HE), who competed in A3 place, while Gábor Hajba (Elektromosok HE), who fished in A2 place, won the third place in the competition category.
A more modest result was achieved by the enthusiastic youth competitors, four of whom unfortunately did not manage to catch a fish. The 1220 gram catch of Áron Hajós (Körmendi Munkás HE) won the first place medal and cup, the others received a gift package as a souvenir for their persistent participation in the competition. Despite this, both the youth and their parents can be proud of the perseverance of the young competitors who, despite the difficulties, did not give up the competition and tried to catch the fish until the last moment, which not many adults have succeeded in today.
The organizers also awarded a special award to the only female competitor in the field, Andrea Sántáné Tóth, who, as a member of Körmendi Munkás HE, finished the competition with a catch of 140 grams.
Before the announcement of the results, the HE management of Kerkafalv Kéthatár-tó treated all the contestants and their families with a bowl of delicious game stew, true to tradition. During the announcement of the results, Norbert Puskás thanked the activists of the local association for their help in preparing and running the competition and for the kind hospitality, then József Mesterházy presented the results and presented the prizes, medals, and certificates to the best. In addition, just like last year, the winners were able to receive valuable gift vouchers courtesy of the main sponsor of the competition series, the TackleBait Fishing Store and pet food store, and Garbolino Wholesale.
We congratulate all competitors and wish them continued successful racing!
