Mersevát peat pond
ShareThe Merseváti peat mining lake is located on the eastern border of Vas County, where peat was mined (for the purpose of soil improvement) around 1955-60. After about 15 years of mining, water appeared in the pit in the 1970s, and cultivation has continued until now.
It has been granted fishing rights since the 1980s. The area is affected by the nearby Marcal. In the past, a sluice allowed the water of the river to enter, but in recent years, due to the decrease in the water level of the Marcal, it released water from the lake rather than holding it in, so it was plugged.
The water supply is supplied by the Fekete-árk, a small stream, from a flat catchment area located higher. There is some continuation of this ditch in the river bed roughly on the center line. Here, the water is about 40-50 cm higher than the average depth of one and a half meters.
As a result of maintenance and development works on the waterfront, the direct waterfront of the lake became safely accessible and two rest zones were formed on the upper side of the main road of the lake. Due to water quality protection reasons, habituation feeding is prohibited on the Mersevát peat lake. On the side of the lake overlooking Külsővat, it is strictly forbidden to drive your car to the water's edge, you can leave your car in the gravel area for parking.
