Döröske Reservoir - MOHOSZ water area - fishing possible with complete county daily-weekly-annual tickets

The lake is located on the border of the Döröske village in Vas County, where the water of the Bogrács stream was dammed into a lake in 1976, which served as a tourist center, swimming, fishing and relaxation for decades. The reservoir is an integral and defining part of the characteristic Western Transdanubian landscape located at the junction of the Rába-Csörnöc Valley and the Kemeneshát. After the change of regime, the reservoir came into foreign ownership and by the time it was returned to Hungarian ownership, the condition of the water retention facilities had completely deteriorated and was not suitable for maintaining and preserving the water at a safe level. The reinforced concrete structure with a concrete round-bottomed bottom discharge was soaked in many places, causing corrosion of the reinforced concrete structure. The condition of the water facilities did not meet the operating conditions, and consequently the reservoir did not have a water law operating permit. Ensuring a permanent operating water level was an essential prerequisite for preserving biodiversity and further welfare utilization, which required the renovation of technical facilities. The utilization of the water area for fish farming was also unregulated, and fishing operations were carried out haphazardly and unprofessionally in recent decades.

The Döröskei Reservoir was transferred from Austrian private ownership to Hungarian public ownership in 2018, with the Őrség National Park Directorate as its first state asset manager. The Hungarian National Angler's Association (MOHOSZ) became the state asset manager of the lake on October 6, 2021. Within the framework of the awarded MAHOP project, MOHOSZ renovated and modernized the existing water management facilities of the lake in 2023, in addition to preserving biodiversity. As a result of the project, the lake received a water rights operation permit for 20 years, and as the next milestone, the lake's fish management plan was completed, which was approved by the specialized authorities by December 31, 2027.

As a conclusion to the project, on October 13, 2023, in accordance with the effective fish management plan, the first new “inhabitants” of the lake arrived, in the form of a total of 468 kg of extra carp between 4-5 kg. The second fish stocking arrived in November 2023-2024 in the form of 500-500 kg of selected bream, then in April 2024 with 2000 kg of three-summer carp between 1.5-3 kg, and in the autumn of 2024 with 150 kg of one-summer pike perch, the release of native fish continued.

Dr. Lajos Szűcs, president of the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ), and Miklós Seregi, president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, concluded a fishing and fishing tourism agreement in December, which provides favorable fishing opportunities for Vas anglers on the Döröskei Reservoir.

MOHOSZ, as the authority authorized to manage the water area's fish, with the active participation of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, has provided fishing opportunities on the Döröske Reservoir on the C&R (catch and release) principle since June 1 , 2024, in accordance with previous goals. Within the framework of the established cooperation , several angler - friendly rule changes have come into effect since January 1 , 2025, which are the following :

• Among the fish native to the Döröskei Reservoir, carp can be kept as long as its length is at least 30 cm but does not exceed 60 cm.
• Non-native fish can be taken without restriction (silver carp, dwarf catfish, etc.)
• Other native fish and the non-native grass carp cannot be kept and must be gently released back into the water.
• With an adult annual area ticket, you can keep 20 carp, up to a total weight of 40 kg.
• Fishing will be permitted every day of the year from 0:00 to 24:00, except during competitions, events and emergencies.
• With additional "pull-in" tickets issued by the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, the use of a bait boat will be permitted without disturbing others.

It will also be possible to fish on the lake with the combined national and children's territorial permits of the MOHOSZ, while adhering to the rules described above. If someone wants to fish exclusively on Lake Döröske, they will also have the opportunity to do so. MOHOSZ will issue an annual 2-rod territorial permit, the price of which will be 45,000 HUF. Fishing is only possible in areas designated by MOHOSZ - managed by the MOHOSZ, as well as in the area of ​​their own property (waterfront) for owners of waterfront property and their relatives with a valid territorial fishing permit. Currently, there are about 15 fishing spots available, but during the winter and spring we will work on creating additional fishing spots so that as many people as possible can find their way on the shores of the Döröske reservoir.

Plans include the renovation of the dilapidated beach and tourist buildings next to the lake, as well as the relaunch of the beach, which is why MOHOSZ is currently working hard on the government approval of the "National Fishing Tourism Strategy 2030" so that the necessary financial resources are available for the planned developments.
