On June 30, the Vas County Association of Sport Angling Associations hosted nearly forty young people for a program called "Fishing School and Friendly Fishing Competition" for elementary school students. The children gathered before 9 am in the event hall of the Alpine Inn in Vaskeresztes, where they were greeted by Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Anglers' Associations.

After the greeting, Balázs Szekeres, a fishing guard, gave a short introduction: he talked about the basics of fishing, the cleanliness of fishing places, fishing permits, and with the help of boards he illustrated what fish small fishermen can catch in the surrounding waters.

After the theory, the practice followed: Tamás Christmas, a fishing guard on the waterfront, showed what the equipment was like, how to bait, mix bait, and throw in the hook. The kids were happy to get involved in mixing the bait, trying out how to hold the stick, but it showed on them: they can’t wait to apply what they learned in the friendly competition.

After the theoretical and practical knowledge, a draw followed, where it was revealed who would be fishing with whom, and they also took over the necessary fishing rod. Each team also received three gear, corn, bait, and bone, so they soon occupied the fishing grounds.

There were teams who were not happy to sit in the place they were drawn to, as one of them, Lena, was fishing in this place at the school quiz a few weeks ago, and unfortunately no fish could be lured to the hook at the time. He also stated sadly: there will certainly be no bite here.

The race began, and the teams got nicely hooked on the smaller to larger fish: dwarf catfish, carp, and crucian were managed to be herded into the sack. It was good to see them rejoice in each other’s pleasure and proudly stand in front of the camera for the power of a photo, then gently release the fish back into the water.

The helpers stayed with the troops throughout: six fishing guards assisted in the race so that, if necessary, they could remove the hook from the mouth of the fish as gently as possible with a hook release. Léná's team also caught fish, in fact, they needed the most help in a sack, as they could boast the biggest catch: a large grass carp was hooked.

At the end of the competition, the children happily told each other about their experiences and had a delicious lunch in the event space. The announcement of the results followed, where each participant could receive a small gift package and diploma, and the top three placed pairs could also receive a cup and a medal.

It was a pleasure to see the children take care of cleanliness throughout the day and how much attention they paid to theoretical and practical education. There were those who had been fishing before, and there were those who had their first encounter with the sport. He was at the beginning of the demonstration fishing, who didn't like to catch the bait either, and by the end of the race he had already pinned the bone to the hook. We hope that more and more children will become active anglers, as time spent outdoors in peace is a real treasure in today's world.
