Black mullet, mullet, and walleye are arriving in the Rába River

2023.03.22. Share

On the occasion of Fish Day, the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations and the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Association of Sport Fishing Associations announced a joint fish stocking campaign. At the suggestion of the Hungarian Mortuary Society, Fish Day has been celebrated on March 20 every year since 2017. The management of the two associations decided to strengthen the Rába's native fish stock this year on the occasion of the important day. They met at the Nicki artificial dam on the border of the Vasi and Győr sections of the river to present the fish stocking process to the general public. On the joint Tuesday occasion, many thousands of one-year-old specimens of very rarely available native fish species (mullet, turbot, and sole) were planted on the Vasi and Győr sections of the river.

Black mullet, mullet, and walleye are arriving in the Rába River

In accordance with the preliminary information, our association wanted to present the Rába River on Tuesday, March 21, so together with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Sports Fishing Association, we carried out the following native fish stockings:

On the Vas county section:

  • 7500 pieces of mullet (between 8-13 cm),
  • 5000 lumps (between 10-15 cm),
  • 2500 bales (between 10-15 cm)

GyMS county section:

  • 4000 pieces of mullet (between 8-13 cm),
  • 2500 lumps (between 10-15 cm),
  • 1200 bales (between 10-15 cm)

With the help of our professional fish keepers, we planted the fish in the presence of Dr. Dániel Kovács-Bokor, the managing director of Megafish Kft. in Baja, the special legal organization of MOHOSZ, in the dammed sections of Alsószölnök, Szentgotthárd, the downstream of the Körmend dam, and the dammed sections of Ikervár and Nick. At the last location, in addition to interested parties and representatives of the press, the enthusiastic children from the Répcelak fishing community helped to give the native fish a new home.

Today's installation was also reported by our prominent media partner Vas Népe and Szombathelyi Televízió, to whom we would like to thank! The report available on vaol.hu can be viewed by clicking here.

We thank all the volunteers who participated in the installation for their work!
Let's protect our precious native fish stock together!
