Balinese students arrived at Rába
On Monday, the new residents of the Rába River were loaded onto the Mikei site of the Somogy-based Bérhalász KFT., packed in double plastic bags inflated with oxygen.
The pre-reared, 4-5 cm baleins were installed by professional fish warden Tamás Karácsonyi and fish management team leader József Mesterházy on several dammed and calmer sections of the Rába River, locally in Alsószölnök, Szentgotthárd, Magyarlak, Körmend, Molnaszecsőd, Ikervár, the Herpenyő gorge in Sótony and Nick. We would also like to thank the fishermen who helped with the installation!

A few words about the fish species:
The balin or, as it was formerly known, the predatory eel, is the so-called intermediate predator of our rivers and still waters. It has no real teeth, but it “grinds” its prey, which most often comes from the estuaries, with its pharyngeal teeth. It is a popular target fish for spinner and fly anglers, but it is also popularly fished for with the “water ball” method used in the Arctic, as even the effort of catching not very large specimens tests the angler and his equipment.

The small, settled baleen whales feed primarily on zooplankton, lower crustaceans, and arthropods, and then, when they reach a size of about 15-20 cm, they switch to consuming mainly vertebrate species, primarily fish.
We once again ask fellow T. anglers to be careful when fishing, as the large balin is often confused with the chub, but its anal fin is convex, its scales are larger, and it can also be confused with the bream, but its mouth is smaller, it does not reach below the eye, and its scales are also larger.
Let's take care of the new inhabitants of our waters together!
