Rábagyarmat storm water reservoir

One of the most prominent leisure activities in Vas County is fishing, which is practiced annually by approximately 12,000 anglers in the 28 member associations of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations on the waters of Vas. The association is currently the owner of 43 fishing waters in Vas and 6 in Zala, operating on 1,397 hectares of water area as a non-governmental non-profit organization and a member of the Hungarian National Fishing Association.

Allow us to introduce our fishing lake called Rábagyarmati Záportározó to you in the following brief presentation.

Active anglers from Rábagyarmat and its surroundings, as well as local activists committed to nature, approached our Association in late autumn 2024 with the request that they would like to provide legal fishing opportunities, primarily for children, at the village's "storm tank". The local government and the West Transdanubian Water Directorate both supported the initiative. Following the designation of MOHOSZ, the right to fish was transferred to our Association, so from 2026 the water area can officially be fished as part of the county tickets, based on the following C&R rules.

The official name of the new water area: Rábagyarmati Storm Reservoir (C&R) – code number: 18-115-1-1

Rábagyarmat stormwater reservoir – C&R rules from January 1, 2026:

• Due to the limited water surface and small capacity of the reservoir, anglers with a child and youth area permit enjoy primary fishing opportunities, depending on the number of available fishing spots.
• Regardless of the type of territorial ticket, you can only fish on the reservoir with one fishing gear and one hook.
• All fish – with the exception of dwarf catfish – must be gently released back into the water immediately after being caught.
• Fishing cannot be started without a large sinker, fish mat ("carp mat") and hook releaser.
• In the water area, spinning and fly fishing with artificial bait is only allowed with a barbed or barbed hook.
• There is a general - artificial bait - predatory fish ban in the water area between January 01 and April 30. In the water area between October 01 and March 31, fishing is allowed from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or until the street lights are turned on, and between April 01 and September 30, fishing is allowed from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. or until the street lights are turned on. Fishing in the dark is FORBIDDEN!
• Fishing with live bait fish and fish slices, bait fishing and the use of bait nets are prohibited on the lake!
• Feeding fish is prohibited!

The Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations will continue to strive to protect, develop, expand and continuously increase the awareness of the natural values of the water areas under its management in the future.
