This year, the final of the Vasi Vizeken Primary School Fishing Competition was held for the twenty-first time on June 16th at the Vaskerestes Fishing Tourism Center and in the surroundings of Lake Alpesi. Following the previous two correspondence rounds, a total of 13 enthusiastic teams made it to the final and were able to take possession of the lake shore.

This year's correspondence rounds also featured creative video tasks as a novelty. Among other things, the students had to create a campaign video of up to one minute in length, in which they called the attention of anglers and hikers to the protection of the waterfront environment, the preservation of flora and fauna, and the importance of responsible, litter-free nature walks. The motto of the task – “Be careful… it depends on us!” – well expressed one of the most important messages of the competition: the future of nature and our waters is our shared responsibility.

The day began with the arrival and registration of the teams. The children were treated to a small snack before they took their places next to the team flags they had made. Each flag was unique and imaginative, reflecting the creativity and unity of the teams.

At the beginning of the competition , Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, greeted the students, preparatory teachers, parents and guests. In his speech, he introduced the organizing team involved in the organization of the competition and thanked everyone who contributed to the successful organization of the event. After that, Judit Polgárné Németh, the coordinator of the school fishing competition, presented the day's program and the detailed rules of the competition.

The 13 finalist teams had the opportunity to prove their knowledge of fish knowledge, fishing and nature conservation for the first time during the theoretical tasks. The tasks did not prove to be easy this time, as the best result out of the 20 points available in the on-site theoretical competition was only 13 points. Four teams managed to achieve this, so the Rábamenti Harcsáks, the Rumi Bucók, the Jánosházi horgászok and the Küszhájtók team finished in a tie for first place.

After completing the theoretical task sheet, the teams drew lots for their fishing spots and received the equipment necessary for the competition. All teams could compete with the same equipment, but they had to provide their own bait. The children then took their places on the shore of the Alpine Lake and excitedly awaited the sound of the horn signaling the start. After the signal, the two-hour, exciting fish-catching competition began, where patience, concentration and teamwork all played an important role. Before the competition, each participant received sandwiches and refreshments so that they could start the competition with sufficient energy and good mood.

However, the fish clearly did not read the competition announcement. Due to the much more subdued than expected enthusiasm for catching, endurance, patience and concentration played a more important role than record catches. Each bite was of particular importance, and every fish caught was accompanied by loud encouragement, shouts of joy and applause.

Despite this, the young anglers achieved great results. In the final, the 13 teams caught a total of nearly 16 kilograms of fish, which is still an excellent performance and shows the children's preparation, perseverance and love for fishing.

The most successful teams in the fishing competition:

🥇 Derko Carp Team - 5810 g
🥈 Jáki FISHING – 3070 g
🥉 Rumi Catfish – 2500 g

At the end of the day, however, it wasn't just the weight of the fish caught that counted. The overall result included the scores from the two correspondence rounds, the on-site theory quiz, and the fish-catching competition.

The competition was open until the last moment, and in the end, the final order was decided by the fishing competition. The Derko Carp Team was still waiting for the final in third place after the two correspondence rounds, but thanks to their excellent fishing performance and their outstanding results in the fishing competition, they managed to overtake their rivals and stand on the top step of the imaginary podium.

The final results of the 21st Vasi Vizesek Primary School Fishing Competition:

🥇 1st place – Derko Carp Team
Derkovits District St. Martin Catholic Primary School

🥈 2nd place – Rumi Harcsák
Rumi Rajki István Elementary School

🥉 3rd place – Rumi Bucok
Rumi Rajki István Elementary School

The first three teams took home cups and fishing rods, and all participants received commemorative cards and gift packages. The certificates were presented by Norbert Puskás, the executive president of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, while the cups were presented by Etelka Biró, the federation's economic manager . Finally, he thanked the children for their enthusiastic participation, the work of the preparatory teachers, and the supportive attitude of the parents, without which these community experiences would not be possible. At the end of his speech, he wished all participants a wonderful summer full of experiences, lots of time spent on the water and countless memorable fishing experiences.

The Vasi Vizeken Elementary School Fishing Contest, which has been held for the past 21 times, has attracted nearly 3,000 young people. Many former competitors have now become committed anglers, and there are even teachers who once participated in the contest as students and are now returning to the competition with their own students.

The young people's pole rigs for the event were provided by the M-Team float manufacturing company. We would like to thank Péter Mészáros for his support since the beginning of the competition.

The 21st Vasi Vizeken Elementary School Fishing Contest proved once again that fishing is much more than catching fish. It builds community, provides an experience, teaches respect for nature, and creates memories that will accompany young people for a lifetime.

See you next year!
