This is what the Vasi Vizeken-Garbolino-TackleBait Abért-tó Cup was like

2026.06.22. Share

A total of 57 anglers took part in the three categories over the weekend and although the summer heat posed a serious challenge for the field, more than 800 kilograms of fish were weighed. After the hobby category competition on Saturday, the competitive and youth anglers took over the main role on Sunday. The picture of the lake was similar this time too: the fish were difficult to identify, the bites came intermittently, and mistakes could be particularly costly. However, all this only made the outstanding performances, of which there was no shortage on this day, even more valuable.

This is what the Vasi Vizeken-Garbolino-TackleBait Abért-tó Cup was like
  • Hobby anglers played the main role on Saturday at Lake Abért II

On the first day of the Vasi Vizeken–Garbolino–TackleBait Abért-tó Cup, 27 participants in the hobby adult category competed on Abért II Lake. The competition, which took place in three sectors of 9 people each, initially yielded encouraging fish catches, but as the competition progressed, it became increasingly difficult to get the fish to bite.

In the morning hours, several beautiful 4-5 kilogram carp and a grass carp were hooked, and some large breams also made the catch more colorful. However, according to the competitors' reports, after the initial momentum, the fish became quiet for a longer period of time and behaved much more capriciously than usual. This time, none of the competitors who tried different fishing methods found a clearly working recipe.

The water revived again in the last hour. Many caught more fish than in the previous three hours combined. The easing of the heat during the day and the impact of storm clouds arriving in the area probably played a role in the fish becoming more active again.

Anglers reported an unusually high number of fish caught, but catfish and a long-overtaken perch also added to the day's events. At the weigh-in, some competitors exceeded the 20-kilogram weight limit allowed in a single fish bag, resulting in a weight deduction. Unfortunately, this was especially painful for Kevin Szalai, as his second place depended on it.

A young helper also joined the organizing team at the weighing. Zsolt Kántor's little son, Milán, who was participating in the competition, enthusiastically accompanied the weighing and, when needed, readily helped with the tasks assigned to him. As a reward for his diligence, he was also able to participate in the presentation of the cups during the announcement of the results. It was a pleasure to see this enthusiasm and helpfulness, since young people like this represent the future of fishing.

The winner of the hobby category of the Abért-tó Cup was Gábor Bálint with a catch of 28,010 grams. Tibor Imre Pajor finished in second place with 23,070 grams, while Kevin Szalai took third place with a result of 20,000 grams.

The total catch of the competition was 301,530 grams, which meant an individual average of 11,168 grams. Among the sectors, “A” proved to be the strongest with an average of 14,637 grams, while the average catch in “B” sector was 7,731 grams, and in “C” sector it was 11,136 grams.

Final result

  • Hobby adult category:

1. Gábor Bálint 28,010 grams

2. Tibor Imre Pajor 23,070 grams

3. Kevin Szalai 20,000 grams

Although the quantity of fish caught fell short of the usual outstanding results on Lake Abért, the catches achieved under variable conditions are still a respectable achievement.

The competition series continued on Sunday with the competitions of the competitive and youth categories at the same place, on the shores of Lake Abért.

  • Competitors and youth anglers closed the weekend of the Abért-tó Cup

The next day, the Vasi Vizeken–Garbolino–TackleBait Open Lake Cup continued and concluded with the competitions of the competitive and youth categories. The 21-person field of competitors tried to get the most out of the four-hour race in three 7-person sectors, while the 9 youth starters tried to get the most out of it in a separate sector.

After Saturday's experience, many hoped that they would be able to adapt more quickly to the current situation of the lake, but the fish held surprises this time as well. Due to the summer heat and the difficult to predict fish movement, most of the field was forced to constantly change tactics. The catches mainly included carp and bream, but some grass carp, crucian carp, and once again a catfish were also considered.

One of the characteristics of the day was again the large number of fish lost. Several competitors had a significant amount of weight left in the water during their efforts, which could have influenced the fate of several rankings. That is why error-free fishing and good use of bites became especially valuable.

The best performance in the competitive category was given by Tibor Pajtli, who fished from the middle part of sector B and took first place with a catch of 47,270 grams. His result was not only the largest catch in the category, but also the largest catch of the entire day. Norbert Misák came in second place with 37,180 grams, while István Bedics took third place with a result of 21,740 grams.

In the youth category, Buthi Benjámin stood out from the field. The young angler achieved an extraordinary catch of 38,770 grams, which proved to be the second best result of the entire Sunday field. Behind him, Rahnefeld Max with 21,090 grams, and Hatos Dávid with 20,000 grams, stood on the podium.
This competition was reminiscent of Saturday's competition in many ways. Another similarity was that the fate of the silver medal here also depended on an overloaded fish trap. Just like the day before, but this time Dávid Szalai Hatos came in second place.

The performance of the youth field deserves special mention. All nine competitors managed to catch fish, and the average catch of over 16 kilograms per person clearly shows the preparedness of the young people. It is a special pleasure for us that in recent years more and more youth anglers have joined the competition series and their progress is becoming more and more spectacular from competition to competition.

A total of 363,650 grams of fish were weighed in the competitive category, which meant an average catch of 17,317 grams. The youth category ended the day with a total catch of 145,180 grams and an average of 16,131 grams. Taken together, Sunday's total catch reached 508,830 grams, and the average per person was 16,961 grams.

Although the catch results this time did not reach the outstanding levels previously known on Lake Abért II, the performances achieved in the variable conditions well reflected the preparedness of the field.

The Best Sportfishing in Vasi Vizes competition series will continue for competitors with the County Team Championship rounds in mid-September, while in the youth category the final round in Répcelak will decide the final rankings. The adult hobbyists will gather in Püspökmolnári for one last big race.
