Trout Area OB rounds were organized
On April 18–19, 2026, the Alpesi Horgásztó in Vaskerestes hosted the first two rounds of the 6th Trout Area Spinning National Championship, which was held as part of the MOHOSZ–OTP Bank Hungarian Championships series. During the two-day competition, 31 competitors from the top of the Hungarian trout area discipline competed in excellent conditions, in a sporting and exciting competition.
The championship consists of four rounds, the first of which was held in Vaskeresztes, while the continuation will take place in autumn, in Slovakia. The season opening rounds were extremely eventful on the first day. Before the competition, as well as during the two competition days, several stages of stocking were carried out, occasionally 80–80 kg rainbow trout arrived in the lake, ensuring the strongest possible chances of catching.
A total of 501 trout were caught on Saturday, which is an outstanding result in itself. The most successful competitor of the day was Zoltán Simon with 29 points, followed by Anikó Kálmán Pankotayné (28 points) and Péter Oláh (27 points).

On Sunday, the anglers took it to an even higher level. Over 600 trout were caught during the 12 stages, making the weekend one of the most fishy trout area competitions in recent years. Ákos Fricz won the second round with 30 points, ahead of Zoltán Plank and Gergő Wolf.

The Alpine Fishing Lake in Vaskerestes proved its suitability for hosting prestigious competitions in every respect. The varied course, careful preparation and regular fish stocking contributed to the fact that the competitors were able to fish in balanced, exciting and technically challenging stages. The specific features of trout area fishing - precise casting, continuous variation of artificial baits and quick tactical adaptation - played a key role this weekend as well, posing a serious challenge even for experienced competitors.
The championship will continue with rounds 3–4 on October 10–11, 2026, in Rožňava, Slovakia, where the fate of this year's national championship title will be decided.
We would like to thank all competitors for their participation and the cooperation of the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ). Special thanks go to the colleagues and helpers who participated in the organization and implementation, without whom the event would not have been possible at such a high standard.
