Three young people from Vásárlón at the 48th National Youth Fishing Camp
The 48th National Youth Fishing Camp of the MOHOSZ was held between August 9 and 14, 2026, and was hosted by the Bodnár Bertalan Nature and Environmental Education Center located on the banks of the Mártélyi Backwater. The Vás Association was represented in the prestigious camp by three young anglers, Zalán Máthé, Benjamin Buthi and Max Rahnefeld.
The young people earned their participation with their results at the County Youth Competition, so they were able to prove themselves among young people coming from different parts of the country in the MOHOSZ national final.
- Meaningful programs and serious competition
The six-day camp was attended by 37 young anglers, who came from almost every corner of the country. The camp was not only about competition: the young people could participate in numerous professional and community programs, while fishing naturally played the main role on the Mártélyi backwater.
The competitors tested their skills in four events:
- rigging,
- fishing,
- theoretical knowledge,
- casting.
The program was made even more diverse by lectures, home team competitions, a water tour, beach trips, and joint fishing.
During the camp, the young people gained insight into the basics of fly tying and fly fishing, the secrets of casting, and feeder techniques, among other things.
The presentation of juvenile fishing was an interesting professional program, where participants could see up close how experimental fishing takes place and what information it provides for fish farming.
- I also had to do well in competitions.
During the rig-making, the competitors had to make a float rig with a tip rod that met the specified parameters. The fish-catching took place in two rounds, where the young people had to prove their fishing skills on a designated section of the Mártélyi backwater. During the competition, in addition to carps, breams and a significant amount of dwarf catfish were also hooked.
In the theoretical round, in addition to a 22-question test, the campers also had to complete a fish identification task. During the target casting, they had to cast their rigs as accurately as possible from three different distances.
In addition to the competitions, joint programs also played an important role. The young people explored the Mártélyi backwater on a canoe trip, went to the beach, played volleyball, and participated in several playful team activities.
- You can return home enriched with experience and knowledge.
The results were announced at the end of the camp. Vince Kugler won the overall competition, Milán Mányi came in second place, and László Gál came in third.
Although the three young people from Vásárlón did not manage to make the podium, they have no reason to be discouraged. Participation in the camp in itself is a serious recognition of the work and preparation that they demonstrated at the County Youth Competition.
The 48th National Youth Fishing Camp was much more than a simple competition. The participants gained new fishing knowledge, competition experience, new friendships, and many shared experiences.
