They discussed fishing opportunities around Rábagyarmat
On Thursday evening, November 28, 2024, community life filled the Rábagyarmati Kultúrház, where representatives of local governments, members of civil organizations and enthusiastic fishermen gathered for a regional discussion. The aim of the event was not only to discuss the development plans, but also for the members of the community to think together about the fishing and water tourism opportunities along the **Rába.
The evening was opened by Bálint Soós, deputy mayor of Rábagyarmat , who welcomed the participants and then gave the floor to Norbert Puskás, executive president of the Vas County Association of Sportfishing Associations . Norbert Puskás presented the Association's achievements and plans so far and encouraged those present to come up with ideas. The Association was also represented by József Mesterházy, head of the fish management group, Károly Sipos, fishery guard, and László Cziráky, president of Szentgotthárdi HE .
The fishing development opportunities of the region were discussed at the meeting:
- The Rábagyarmati rainwater catchment area: I would like to include a small but charming water area located on the Gyarmati stream in legal C&R (catch and release) fishing. Here, they would primarily offer children and sports fishermen the opportunity to relax.
- Lake Csörötnek: The 1-1.5 hectare lake in Csörötnek may also be suitable for fishing after the water supply and water rights permits are settled. Zsolt Kocsis, the mayor of Csörötnek , emphasized that the properties of the lake are excellent for community purposes.
- Rátót mine lakes and the Rába backwaters were also discussed. These require further investigations for the sake of sustainable fishing.
A pilot project proposal for the revitalization of the backwater system near Rábagyarmat was also briefly presented, which, in the case of receiving central EU support, would be precisely planned with the involvement of all interested parties, and then implemented with the help of additional tenders.
The participants also reviewed the locations of the boat harbors and rescue points planned along the Rába in the light of the winning tender of the Aktív Rába Association. From the point of view of fishing and fish protection, it would be important that the harbors can be used free of charge by anyone, with registration, and that they support not only water tourism, but also fishing tourism and boat-based fish conservation. At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed that the implementation of development plans requires time, patience, and closer cooperation. The goal is to make the fishing and tourism opportunities along the Rába accessible to as many people as possible, while the planned measures also take into account the protection of nature. The good-natured conversation and constructive suggestions confirmed: together, as a community, we are capable of even more!
