The 2026 Vasi Vizeken Fishing Camp has ended.
Five meaningful days, nearly fifty enthusiastic young people, countless fish catches, professional presentations, competitions and lots of shared experiences. This was the 2026 Vasi Vizeken Fishing Camp in Vaskeresztes...
This year's camp was attended by 49 children, ten of whom were daycare students and thirty-nine were boarders. Following their arrival on Sunday , Norbert Puskás, the executive president of our Association, greeted the campers, and then Attila Kádi, the camp leader, explained the most important information. After the group photo and the distribution of this year's camp T-shirts, what everyone had been waiting for finally began: fishing.
The first afternoon already showed that we were looking forward to a good week. Carp, bream, crucian carp and grass carp were all caught, and the biggest experience of the day was Zsombor Szemes' first really big grass carp. Not long after , Ábel Fülöp also delighted the campers with a fish of a similar size. The evening football cup and night fishing were the perfect end to the opening day.
The camp was not only about fishing. During the week, the children participated in numerous lectures and practical demonstrations, from which they gained a lot of new knowledge.
József Mesterházy, our fish management and fish protection group leader, gave a presentation on the wildlife of the Pinka, domestic fish species, fish protection, and the importance of environmental protection.
World Championship silver medalist and competition angler Balázs Németh's feeder demonstration provided the youngsters with plenty of useful practical advice, while camp leader Tamás Farkas introduced the children to the basics of fly fishing and ultralight spinning at the Pinka stream. The program was such a success that more people returned to the stream in the following days.
The special retro fishing presentation by Tamás Karácsonyi, the Association's fishing ranger, also attracted great interest. The campers were able to see old rods, reels and other fishing equipment, which they could also handle, so they could be part of a real journey through time.
During the week, the young people had several competitions to compete in. One of the highlights was the fishing test, which all nine candidates passed successfully.
On Tuesday, we organized the individual fishing competitions, where the smaller ones competed on Lake Alpesi and the larger ones on the Pinka backwater. They also had the opportunity to test their skills in a target shooting competition.
On Wednesday, a special team competition followed, in which the participants had to solve fish knowledge tasks in addition to fishing skills. The good-natured competition brought an extremely close fight throughout.
Based on the results of the week, the final results of the combined camp championship were finally determined.

The winners received medals, cups and fishing equipment, while all campers returned home with commemorative medals and other gifts.
Throughout the week, great emphasis was placed on respecting nature, treating fish with care, and developing a responsible fishing attitude. One of the most beautiful stories of the camp was related to environmental protection. After Monday evening fishing , László Czékus and Kornél Tóth collected the waste left on the lakeshore without any special request, setting an example for their peers. Their voluntary initiative was recognized with a special award by our camp leaders.
Besides fishing, there was also time for relaxation. The campers played spontaneous soccer matches and, in the heat, visited the beach in neighboring Burg, Austria, where they spent a pleasant afternoon.
In the second half of the week, it was clear that a real community had formed from the children who had not yet met on the first day. New friendships were formed, many shared experiences and memorable stories were created, which will accompany the participants for a long time to come.
On the final day on Thursday, there was still time for one last fishing trip together, a Pinka tour. Despite the extreme heat, the camp took place without any serious injuries, and the children participated in the programs with discipline, helping each other and with an exemplary attitude.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the camp leaders, helpers, speakers and contributors who worked tirelessly to make the Vasi Vizeken Fishing Camp an unforgettable experience for the children.
We hope that next year we will be able to meet many familiar faces again and introduce new young people to the love of fishing, nature, and community.
