Pisces Day 2026 - Visual installation on the Rába
On March 20, Fish Day, the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations and the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Association of Sport Fishing Associations prepared a joint program again this year. The cooperation of the two organizations has now become a tradition. Year after year, we jointly draw attention to the importance of protecting our natural waters and native fish stocks.
At the beginning of the program , Norbert Puskás, the executive chairman of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, greeted the children and spoke briefly about the significance of Fish Day and the importance of protecting fish and their habitats. After that , Zsuzsanna Ivancsoné Horváth, the executive director of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, presented the three introduced fish species. The presentation was interactive, the children actively participated and skillfully answered questions about fish.
On the occasion of this significant day, fish stocking was carried out on the Ikervár and Nick sections of the Rába River, with the aim of strengthening the river fish population. During the stocking, specifically the so-called rheophilic fish species that prefer currents were introduced into the water, thus contributing to maintaining the ecological balance of the Rába.
At the end of the program, a visual installation took place in the area of the dam in Nicken, where the visiting children and their companions could actively participate in the placement of the fish. The shared experience was not only entertaining, but also gave the young people the opportunity to get to know the typical fish species of the Hungarian rivers up close. Among the participating children were members of the fishing club led by the president of the Répcelak Móra Ferenc Primary School, Attila Kádi, and local residents who were also interested in the program, who were happy to join in.
This year, a total of 1,000 people were killed in the Rába section of Vas County.
– 120 kg two-year-old goat,
– 1500 pieces of juvenile mullet, and
– 1000 young chubs were placed.
The special feature of the installation is that more chub arrived than planned, making the stock even richer.
The fish were brought to Rába with the help of Baja's Megafish Kft., and in addition to the professionals, the participating children also helped with the placement, which is one of the most popular elements of the event every year. At the end of the installation, each child could go home with a small fish gift.
Fish Day has been a prominent day since 2017, and every year since then it has provided an excellent opportunity for anglers and nature enthusiasts to work together to protect the wildlife of our waters. The cooperation between the two associations is exemplary, as they work together to ensure sustainable fish management and the preservation of fishing opportunities on the border sections of the Rába River.
This year's event proved once again that working together and shaping attitudes is important even at a young age. The participating children returned home enriched by their experiences and with a sense of responsibility towards nature.
