Our competition series kicked off this year over the long weekend.
On the first weekend of May, our "Best Sport Angler of the Iron Waters 2026" competition series began in Kerkafalva, on the shores of Lake Kéthatár. The opening round took place over two competition days. On May 1, the anglers of the hobby adult and youth categories competed, while on May 3, the anglers of the competitive category competed.
The season started with a commemoration
Friday's competition day began with a touching moment. At the opening, Executive Chairman Norbert Puskás greeted the participants, then Kálmán Nemes, President of the Kéthátar-tó Fishing Association, addressed the audience. After that, the anglers together remembered Elek Kálmán, the former president and founder of the association . They paid tribute to his memory with a minute of silence, then planted a memorial tree, symbolizing the permanence of his work for the community.

Hobby and youth field
28 amateur adults and 6 youth anglers took part in the competition on May 1. Lake Kéthátar did not prove to be an easy course this time either. Although a significant carp stocking of around 1000 kg was carried out at the beginning of April, the fish did not give up easily. Several competitors also finished the round without a catch, which clearly shows the difficulty of the course.

One of the biggest positives of the day was the outstanding performance of the youth anglers. Several of them proved their preparedness by beating the adult field.
A total of 94,070 grams of fish were weighed on the competition day, with the average catch being 2,767 grams.
- Hobby adult category:

- Ferenc Nagy – 9780 g
- Robert Horvath – 7260 g
- Zsolt Kantor – 2080 g
- Youth category:

- Máthé Zalán – 13,590 g
- Rahnefeld Max – 12,060 g
- Buthi Benjamin – 8710 g
Detailed results are available here.

The most successful angler of the entire field was Máthé Zalán, who competed in the youth category, and stood out from the field with a catch of more than 13.5 kilograms. The special award for the best female angler was won by Andrea Sántáné Tóth.
- Competitor category
On May 3, 14 competitors in the competition category continued their competition. During Sunday's round, fishing with fine-tuned equipment, including match rods, proved to be effective. The fish were not in the near-shore zone, so the pile rod technique was less successful. The breams were extremely cautious in feeding, so mosquito larvae proved to be a key bait. Those competitors who found the schools of fish and were able to supplement this with a catch of a carp each had an advantage.

The positive thing about the competition is that every competitor caught a fish. During the weighing, a total of 55,590 grams of fish were placed on the table, which meant an average catch of 3,971 grams. This is a noticeable improvement compared to last year's results.
- Competitor category:

- Peter Kovacs – 9010 g
- Misak Norbert – 5690 g
- Balint Varga – 7250 g

Thanks to the leaders and helpers of the Kéthatár-tó Fishing Association, as well as the colleagues who participated in the organization, for the high-quality implementation.

Continued in Döröské
