Joint program with NYUDUVIZIG on the occasion of World Water Day
On the occasion of World Water Day, on Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025, the West Transdanubian Water Management Directorate and the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations jointly organized an educational program in Szombathely, on the banks of the Arany Stream and the Boating Lake. The aim of the unusual environmental lesson was to draw attention to the importance of water, as well as the significance of fish protection and sustainable fishing.

As part of the program, the organizers gave lectures on the basics of fishing and the fish fauna to about 100-120 children. The children came from Reményik Sándor and Oladi Elementary Schools. The students were able to learn about the ecosystem of natural waters and gain practical insight into water measurements and the world of fishing.
While the different school groups were alternating, a spectacular fish stocking took place: scad carp from the Balaton Fish Farming Co. were placed in the lakes. During this:
- 400 kg of fish were found in the Szombathely Boating Lake
- 200 kg of fish to the neighboring Horgász Lake
The event provided a special experience for the young people, as they were able to observe the process of fish stocking up close, and the bravest ones were able to participate in releasing a lanky carp themselves.
World Water Day has been celebrated every year on March 22nd since 1993 to raise awareness about the importance of clean water and the need to conserve it. Wednesday's event provided an excellent opportunity for the younger generation to become more aware of water conservation and sustainable water management.
We would like to thank the Western Transdanubian Water Management Directorate for the opportunity to be part of the program!
