In 2018, the Döröske reservoir was transferred from Austrian private ownership to Hungarian public ownership, the first state trustee of which was the Őrségi National Park Administration. The Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ) became the state trustee of the lake on October 6, 2021, and subsequently MAHOP-1.2.1-2017-2019-00013, prepared and awarded by the Őrségi National Park. project's new owner. MOHOSZ is Hungary's largest non-governmental organization performing public tasks, with nearly 600,000 active anglers. There are 2,218 registered fish management water areas in our country, of which the vast majority of state or majority state-owned natural water areas, a total of 134,673 hectares, belong to the MOHOSZ organizational system.

From June 1, you can fish again at the Döröske reservoir

The lake is located on the border of the village of Döröske in Vas County, where the waters of the Bogrács stream were dammed into a lake in 1976, which for decades served as a tourist center, for bathing and fishing. The reservoir forms an integral and defining part of the typical Western Transdanubian landscape located at the junction of the Rába-Csörnöc valley and the Kemeneshát. After the regime change, the water reservoir was owned by a foreigner, and by the time it returned to Hungarian ownership, the condition of the water storage facilities had completely deteriorated and was not suitable for keeping and preserving the water at a safe level. The reinforced concrete structure with a concrete circular bottom drain was soaked in many places, causing corrosion of the reinforced concrete structure. The state of the water facilities did not meet the operating conditions, and as a result, the reservoir did not have a water law operating license. Ensuring a sustainable operating water level was an indispensable basic condition for the preservation of biodiversity and further welfare utilization, for which the renovation of the technical facilities became necessary. The utilization of the water area for fish management was also unorganized, the fishing in the last decades was carried out randomly and not professionally.

Within the framework of the awarded MAHOP project, in addition to preserving biodiversity, MOHOSZ renovated and modernized the lake's existing water technical facilities last year and obtained the lake's water rights operation permit for long-term legal use. The gross amount of the technical renovation works was HUF 84,052,834, of which MAHOP provided HUF 63,827,796 in EU and domestic support. As a result of the project, the lake received a water rights operation license for 20 years, and as the next milestone, the lake's fish management plan was completed, which was approved by the authorities until December 31, 2027. At the end of the project, on October 13, 2023, in accordance with the effective fish management plan, the first new "residents" of the lake arrived , a total of 468 kg of extra carp between 4-5 kg . The second catch came in November in the form of 500 kg of selected bream, and then in April of this year, the stocking of native fish continued with 2,000 kg of three-year-old carp between 1.5-3 kg .

The works and licensing procedures carried out in the last two years were less spectacular, but from the point of view of the future complex utilization of the lake, basic conditions were created that had not been done for decades. MOHOSZ, as the fish management authority of the water area, with the active cooperation of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations, will start providing fishing opportunities at the Döröske reservoir from June 1, 2024, in accordance with the previous goals.

To begin with, fishing will begin as a C&R (catch and release) type sport fishing lake, using the available shorelines, so that the water area can be re-entered into the tourist and leisure cycle . The most important rules are the following : All fish - with the exception of invasive fish species that cannot be returned (dwarf catfish, silver crucian carp) - must be released gently back into the water immediately after being caught! You can fish in the water area from 01 October to 31 March from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and from 01 April to 30 September from 05:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., or until the street lights are switched on. Night fishing is prohibited!

Fishing can only be done in areas designated by MOHOSZ as property management, as well as for waterfront property owners and their relatives in possession of a valid territorial fishing license in the area of their own property (waterfront). The owner of the property located on the shore of the water area is obliged to allow the professional fish watcher access for the purpose of carrying out inspection, fish rescue and fish management tasks. Only the area in front of the row of buildings (former Strand entrance) in the property management of MOHOSZ can be used for parking without obstructing traffic. It is forbidden to drive into the waterside grassy area and park there!

It is important to know that fishing cannot be started without a large diving bag, a fish mattress ("carp mattress") and a hook releaser! In the water area, you can only spin and fly with lures with a depressed beard or without a beard. No form of introduction (by feeding boat, boat, rubber mattress, swimming, etc.) is allowed.

After the reopening of the lake for fishing , you can visit Lake Döröske with the following discounted ticket prices : June 1, 2024-2025. The price of an adult 2-stick ticket valid for the period between January 31 is 30,000 HUF, the price of a 1-stick ticket for youth and adults is 15,000 HUF, and for children 5,000 HUF. For those who try the lake with a day ticket, the price of an adult 2-stick daily ticket is 3,000 HUF, the youth - and adult concessionaires with 1 stick, and the price of a child's daily ticket is HUF 1500. General Vas county area tickets are not valid for the lake, only daily and annual tickets issued by MOHOSZ!
