Creative solutions on the waterfront that our fish guards do not reward.

The increased fishing traffic in the spring and summer period naturally means more fish guard inspections. In addition to the “usual” irregularities – such as using more rods than allowed, failing to keep a catch log or not having a valid state or regional license – our professional fish guards sometimes encounter quite “creative” solutions.

Based on recent inspections and the procedures initiated as a result, we would like to draw the attention of our fellow anglers to some important rules.

1. The fishing permit is for your personal use – it cannot be transferred to anyone else!

It is illegal to hand over personal documents authorizing you to fish to another person. It is important to know that proceedings can be initiated not only against those who fish with a document issued in someone else's name, but also against the angler who has handed over his or her own documents to someone else.

2. The fish you catch cannot be "transferred" to your fishing partner!

According to the fishing rules of our association and the MOHOSZ valid for our waters: "All anglers with a territorial license are obliged to store the caught and kept kingfish and other fish in their own nets - separately from the catch of other anglers! The exchange of fish caught and kept in this way, or the transfer and gifting of these during the continuation of fishing activities (on the shore of closed waters, within a fishing spot), and the sale of the caught fish are prohibited!"
The fish you catch cannot simply end up in another angler's bag or catch log. It is also not legal to ask them to take home the fish you have already recorded because it is too hot and we continue fishing and when the fish keeper goes to check the fish recorded in the catch log, the fish is no longer there.

3. We can't even transform the riverbank as we please!

It is prohibited to open the riverbed or riverbed walls without permission, to build steps or to build fishing lodges. The establishment of a pier, fishing hut or other fishing lodges may not take place simply because the owner of the affected coastal property has consented to it. The transformation of the waterside and riverbed is not a matter of individual decision.

4. There is no "reserved space" in the water areas managed by the Association!

No one can permanently appropriate a fishing spot for themselves. Objects, markings or other "place-taking" solutions placed do not create an exclusive right to use a given fishing spot.

The above cases are not theoretical examples: our fish guards have encountered all such irregularities within a short period of time, and these can have unpleasant consequences for the people involved. After the fish guard takes action and records are taken, official or federal proceedings may be initiated, depending on the nature of the case. Violations of the rules may result in a fish protection fine and the revocation of the state fishing license.

And one more thing: it's not just the fish warden's job to speak up!
If you see a fellow fisherman making a mistake while fishing, either out of carelessness or because of a lack of knowledge of the rules, feel free to bring it to each other's attention. In many cases, a polite warning from a fellow fisherman can be enough to prevent a more serious problem from developing.

This does not mean reporting each other or constantly monitoring each other. Rather, it means that the order of the waterfront, the protection of our waters and fish stocks, and compliance with the rules are all of our common interests and responsibilities.
Fish wardens cannot be there for every angler, at every moment. However, we anglers can often help each other with a kind word or a timely warning.

We therefore ask our fellow anglers to pay attention not only to their own fishing, but also to each other and the watersides if possible. Our goal is common: to keep our waters tidy, and for fishing to be regular, cultured and enjoyable for everyone.
