There was a Children's Day fishing competition on Lake Rábasömjén
The Rábapaty and Surrounding Area Fishing Association organized its now traditional Children's Day fishing competition on May 31, 2026. Below is Ferenc Pukler's report on the event.

Before the 9 a.m. start, 21 children of different ages gathered excitedly. 6 seniors, 8 juniors and 7 kindergarteners were waiting for the briefing to begin. The fishing spots were drawn using numbers written on the bottom of soda cans, which also came with chocolate and fruit.
Learning from last year's "rebellious" behavior and in order to prevent slipping into the water, the kindergarteners participated in "dry fishing" and a playful competition under the guidance of Dóra Pukler and the parents. Thanks to Tamás Farkas, each of them caught at least 1 fish.

The bigger ones, however, took the task seriously. They caught more and more fish, mostly small ones. During the competition, the organizers offered refreshments to the fishermen, who were exhausted from the heat.

Before the draw began, the organizer announced that several surprises would arrive at the lake area during the competition. The first ones arrived at 9:30, in the person of the Bejcgyertyános volunteer firefighters . The siren-blaring fire truck was a great success. The firefighters organized a water jet target shooting, the use of loudspeakers, and a “race” in the fire truck for the children.

At 10:30, the second surprise was the Sárvár police station's crime scene car, also with its siren blaring. There was another surprise (siren, viewing police equipment). There was a competitor who completely gave up the race and took possession of the cars.

At 12:00 noon the competition ended and the weighing began. Everyone was curious about their opponent's catch, so a small delegation accompanied the weighers. Everyone caught fish, mostly wind-driven crucian carp and red-winged bream. But there was also a silver crucian carp, a bream, 1 sunfish, 1 dwarf catfish and 1 carp.

The results were as follows:
- Seniors:
1. Barnabas Molnar
2. Bertha Luca
3. Marcell Nemeth

- Bottoms:
1. Marko Molnar
2. Matthias Eredics
3. Matthew the Butcher

- Ovis:
1. Gelert Szabo
2. Purple Martin
3. Levente Bokor

Special prizes were awarded to the person who caught the smallest fish (5 cm) and the largest fish (1.2 kg).
In addition to the prizes provided by MOHOSZ, the winners also received a small cup, medal, plaque and commemorative card. Each additional participant received a small package from the sponsors. No one left empty-handed or with a bad taste in their mouths.
As a third surprise while the results were being evaluated , Rahnefeld Max, the association's youth competitor, gave a demonstration of fishing with a rakós rod and a match rod for the interested audience. In addition to the children, many parents also watched the event with interest.
After the awards ceremony, the association invited everyone to a plate of warm goulash and a soft drink, after which some of them participated in an informal, friendly conversation for quite some time, at the end of which the organization and program of next year's competition were also discussed.
