In memoriam - Elek Kálmán (1949-2026)
It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our fishing friend Elek Kálmán, the founding member and first president of the Kerkafalvi Lake Two-Border Fishing Association, who passed away in mid-April 2026.
Elek's name is intertwined with the creation and development of Kerkafalvi Lake. In 2008, together with the founding members, they set themselves a bold but noble goal: to create a fishing lake and community space from the former arable land, built by NYUDUVIZIG, into a fishing lake and community space that will serve anglers and nature lovers in the long term. Through their persistent work, dedication and community-building power, this dream has come true in cooperation with the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations.

Elek Kálmán played an outstanding role not only at the local level, but also in the fishing community of Vas and Zala. Until December 31, 2017, he worked as an active volunteer member of the Executive Committee of our Association, and then between 2018 and 2023, he assisted the organization's work as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Vas County Association of Sport Fishing Associations. We could count on his professional knowledge, experience and humanity in all his roles. The Vas fishing community recognized his work with the "For Fishing in Vas County" award in 2018. Although he later handed over the leadership of the association due to health reasons, the fate of Lake Kerkafalvi and the association remained his heart's desire. With his cooking team, he was a permanent participant in our Pinka Valley Fishing Day every year as long as his health allowed.
In Elek Kálmán, we lost not only an excellent fishing guide, but also a person who set an example of community work, perseverance, and humanity.
His funeral will be held on April 29, 2026 at 3 p.m. in the Felsőszenterzsébet Cemetery.
We will keep your memory alive! May you rest in peace.
